We're in the deep end now

The last five months have been the most eventful and busy time of my life. We moved apartments, shopped for houses, found one we liked, found a better one we liked, bought it, moved in, and bought a pickup truck. And I quit my full-time job.

We've set up shop on 8 mostly wooded acres. It's about 60 miles away from our old apartment, but it feels a whole lot farther. We can't get normal Internet or TV out here, we're on our own when it comes to plowing out from snow, we've got a well for water and we take our trash to the dump ourselves, and we've already had a tree take out our power lines once. But we can do pretty much whatever we want out here without bothering anyone or being bothered by them. One of my favorite things is that we no longer hear cars or air conditioners. We mostly just hear birds and occasionally gun shots (from hunters), which I vastly prefer.

Like all great properties (Biltmore, Tara, Green Gables, Buckingham Palace, etc), our place needs a name. But despite years of joking about the name Spotty Pine Farm, it just doesn't feel right out here. We'll settle on something that fits eventually.

We've seen the place in late fall and in winter, so I'm excited to see how green and lush everything gets in spring and summer. But we have a lot to do before then, like build a garden, put up a fence, and build a chicken coop. Now that I've retreated from the real world, I'll try to use this blog more to post what we're doing and how it turns out.
